Warum Jedi Profis in Sachen Veränderung sind

Erste Akkon Morning Lecture mit Prof. Aliki Nicolaides, Ed.D

Die wichtigste Bedingung für persönliche Weiterentwicklung: alles bisherige Wissen erst einmal über Bord zu werfen. Prof. Aliki Nicolaides, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Adult Learning, Leadership and Adult Development an der University of Georgia (USA) verblüffte ihre Zuhörer nicht schlecht bei ihrer Gastvorlesung am 11. Juli 2019 an der Akkon-Hochschule in Berlin. In der ersten Morning Lecture an der Hochschule für Humanwissenschaften machte die Expertin lebhaft deutlich, warum wir viel mehr mit dem Herzen lernen müssen und welches Mindset es in Organisationen braucht, um echte Veränderungen hervorzubringen. In unserem Kurzinterview verrät sie die wichtigsten Faktoren für Transformation – und was genau das mit den Jedi zu tun hat.

Why do we have to "let go" of our knowledge to evolve?

Prof. Aliki Nicolaides: Think of our selves, our mind, our hearts, our will at vessels that get filled up with knowledge, experience, rules, assumptions... we become so full of certainty - that these are THE rules, truths of our way of knowing, doing, and being, that we have little space to be spontaneous, to be surprised, to learn something new. Letting go, allows us to build trust that something new, truer for the moment is available if I am willing to be curious and empty so to speak of everything that I was sure was TRUE based on values, beliefs, assumptions, experiences from the past.

What can individuals and groups learn from the Jedi?

Prof. Aliki Nicolaides: This is a great question! The Jedi are symbolic of a life force warriors who seek justice and harmony. Their training demands that they grow bigger, more spacious, more fluid and open to connecting to human and nonhuman elements in the world through their hearts, minds, and will so that that they may be available in the moment. Jedi are not seeking answers to problems they are open to responding in ways that generate greatest flourishing and least harm for all they serve as well as for themselves.

What conditions are needed for organizations to become agile, learning organizations?

Prof. Aliki Nicolaides: This is also a good question and you could write a dissertation about it. In a very simple way, my response to this question is to shift the focus from what the organization produces or what value it brings to the market or society - even though this is important and also necessary.
Shift the focus to generating conditions for everyone to feel included, seen, and respected for the value they bring to the larger organizational enterprise. In other words spend more of the organizational focus on creating a culture of trust, speaking truth to power, cultivating response-ability in everyone so that everyone can take up their authority and leadership as needed. Too many organizations try to be "families" which makes things complicated or efficient systems which dehumanize and deconstruct the complexity of a system made up of diverse people that could be responsive, agile.
